Start SHOPPING!

It's getting close to that time of year again!  BACK-TO-SCHOOL SHOPPING!  What?!  You may say, aren't the kids just ending the school year?  Yes, but it won't be long before the back to school sales begin! We support FOUR elementary schools in our area through our Mission Committee and United Methodist Women, who have combined mission efforts in this area!

Sousa, Taft, Jefferson, and Stevenson Elementary Schools  receive our donations.  Many of their students are low-income and from under-served populations, so the supplies are very needed and much appreciated!  You can begin bring donations to church between JULY 14 and AUGUST 11, and put them in the blue Mission bins.  So...start watching for those sales!

WE NEED TO THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:  

·         Backpacks (Don’t put things in the backpack)

·         pencils

·         hand pencil sharpeners with lids,

·         pencil top erasers AND other erasers

·         packages of wide ruled paper

·         spiral notebooks - wide ruled

·         box of 24 crayons

·         colored pencils

·         markers

·         glue sticks

·         hi-liters

·         scissors

·         pocket folders

·        box of kleenex,

·        cough drops, chapstick, hand sanitizer.

Keep 'Em Comin'!

Blooming Missions!

Welcome to our new "Blooming Missions" page for Velda Rose UMC.  We are a congregation actively involved and working on ways to Help the Love of God bloom in you!  And, as such, we believe that our job as Christian disciples is to transform the world through our efforts and service as we attempt to spread God's love to the best of our ability.  There are a lot of different things going on, and we hope you can get a picture of them here, and how you might join in!  We have mission projects that are ongoing, and some that are seasonal.  We believe God's mission is meant to be  "both-and"...BOTH for those closest to us in our neighborhoods, families and communities...AND in the wider world.  Different people feel different callings and passions to meet the needs of God's people near and far. The left column will highlight Velda Rose's primary and ongoing outreach programs: our Food Pantry and our Rummage Sale.  The right column will highlight the varieties of projects and collections we have going on at any given time.  This center column will be updates, reflections, photos, etc. on how our missions at Velda Rose are "blooming" God's love in our world!
